A brutal murder in the heart of Africa. A web of corporate greed. And the one man she shouldn’t trust is the only one who can save her life.

1996, Botswana.

Desperate to escape a devastating romantic betrayal, flight attendant Angie arrives in the drought-stricken Okavango Delta hoping to reconnect with her estranged father, legendary safari operator Starky Willis—and to avoid charming, untrustworthy men at all costs.

Then a wealthy German safari guest is found dead in the bush.

What first appears to be a tragic wildlife attack is soon exposed as a cold-blooded murder. And when Starky is arrested for the crime, Angie is plunged into a dangerous maze of family secrets, corporate sabotage and a conspiracy that reaches far beyond the Delta.

Standing between her and a killer is Nick Hartley, a charismatic ex-military bush pilot who knows the wilderness better than almost anyone. He is exactly the kind of smooth-talking aviator Angie promised herself she would never trust again.

Unfortunately, he is also impossible to resist.

As danger forces them together, suspicion gives way to desire—and desire to something far more dangerous. But Nick is hiding secrets of his own. He was one of the last people to see the victim alive, and when Angie uncovers photographic evidence proving he lied to police about his whereabouts on the day of the murder, everything she thought she knew about him begins to unravel.

Then unsent letters reveal a link between the killing and a controversial water pipeline threatening the future of the Okavango Delta.

Now a ruthless enemy is closing in, Angie’s father is running out of time, and the man she is falling for may be connected to the very conspiracy she is trying to expose.

To save her father—and herself—Angie must decide whether Nick is the one man she can finally trust…

or the ultimate betrayer.

Inspired by the author’s own experiences living and working in Botswana, Wings over the Okavango is an atmospheric romantic suspense filled with danger, passion, bush flying, family secrets and the breathtaking wilderness of the Okavango Delta.

PROLOGUE:

He thinks he’s the hunter, but I have him in my sights.
Late fifties. Grey hair. He walks like a man who expects people to move aside for him. Stiff. Bolt upright. The posture of a military man.
Ha!
Germany hasn’t seen a real war in fifty years.
Maybe that’s why he comes to Africa every year. So he can hold a gun. So he can hunt. Six years in a row now, he’s flown all this way just to feel the cold weight of a rifle in his hands. He needs something to kill. Something to make him feel alive.
I know the feeling.
Except this time, it isn’t just about the thrill.
I weigh the compact 7.65mm handgun in my hands. I haven’t used it in years. Sleek. Lethal. A relic from my military days.
Back then, it earned its keep.
I pause. He’s heading for the ammunition tent now, and I wait, melting into the shadows.
But there’s someone with him. A complication I had hoped to avoid.
The young bloke. Mid to late twenties, light brown hair. He’s chatting away while Kurt Heinrich selects his rifle. Only the best for Kurt, of course. I’ve already checked out what’s waiting in that ammunition tent for this safari. It wasn’t hard to figure out which rifle needed a little judicious tampering with.
I can’t believe my luck, though I always knew the pieces would fall into place. When a mission is this justifiably right, fate tends to cooperate.
Kurt is heading into the bush alone. That’s his plan, and I’m ready for him. But is the young bloke going with him ? Do I have to deal with both of them?
No. Too complicated. The younger one will head back to camp eventually, and Kurt will go on his merry way. He wants a lion, but he knows his limits. He can’t pull that off on his own.
Did I make a noise? Kurt looks up sharply, his gun cocked in my direction. Every bit the alert hunter—or so he thinks.
God, he’s looking right at me. Can he see me through the bush? My heart hasn’t raced this fast since I took out three hostiles in a two-minute ambush during the border wars.
But this is going to be worth the wait. Kurt Heinrich isn’t going to spoil the grand plans of those he has cheated.
He thinks he’s the hunter. He should have seen it coming.
Stealthily, I move forward. I could have done this quickly and cleanly from a distance. But where’s the fun if I don’t have the satisfaction of my prey coming face to face with me? I want to see the blank incomprehension wash over his features as he looks at my drawn pistol. I want him to know exactly what’s coming… but have absolutely no idea why.
Maybe, in those last split seconds of life, he’ll piece it all together.
Except that my bullet won’t be the decider. Oh no, I have something much more entertaining planned for his grand finale.
