MEET THE AUTHOR

Writing as:
- Beverley Oakley
- Beverley Eikli
- B. G. Nettelton
Hi, I'm Beverley, and I write historical romances packed with humour, intrigue, and unexpected endings… under three pen names!
Historical romance
As Beverley Oakley, I write Georgian, Regency and Victorian romance, women’s fiction, and romantic suspense. Some are light-hearted matchmaking romps (like my Scandalous Miss Brightwells series), others are darker, redemptive romances with mystery and the odd murder or two (such as my Daughters of Sin Family Saga or my Fair Cyprians of London series set in a London brothel).
Africa-set Women's Fiction
As B. G Nettelton, I take you to the stark and beautiful landscapes of Africa where dashing pilots and beautiful District Commissioner’s daughters fight forbidden attraction as they are drawn into the darkness of medicine murder and illegal diamond buying – both crimes investigated by my father in Lesotho in the 1960s. (You can read the factual memoirs HERE or my fictionalised romantic adventure version, Diamond Mountain HERE.)
Writing Craft & Memoirs
After twelve years helping my father edit his Memoirs of his life growing up in Botswana in the 1930 and 40s, and in the Colonial Service in Lesotho in the 1960s, I've learned a thing or two about memoir.
I teach Memoir-writing workshops, and have put together all I've learned - including the pitfalls - into my ‘How to Write & Publish’ books written under my Beverley Eikli name.
A little about me
I was born in the African mountain kingdom of Lesotho, and moved to South Australia as a child.
My biggest adventure began when I stumbled upon my grandfather's pictorial diary, written between 1916 and 1922 when he was mapping Botswana’s tsetse fly belt, a disease that causes sleeping sickness. My curiosity was sparked and, aged 27, I took leave from my job as a journalist to manage a luxury safari lodge in the pristine and beautiful Okavango Delta. It was there that I met the love of my life—a dashing Norwegian bush pilot whom I married after a whirlwind romance.
After living in twelve different countries, working as a newspaper journalist, magazine editor, and airborne geophysical survey operator across the globe, I returned to Australia, and now live north of Melbourne, opposite a Gothic insane asylum with my amazing husband, two lovely daughters, and a delightful but not-so-bright Rhodesian Ridgeback.
WORKSHOPS
If you're interested in learning from me, I offer workshops on a variety of topics, including Short Story, Genre Fiction, Novel, Memoir, Family History, and Self-publishing. You can also explore the historical context behind the authentically-sewn costumes I create, like the 1803 muslin gown and over-robe in this picture.
If you'd like me to hold a workshop or class for your library or educational facility, don't hesitate to get in touch at: beverley@beverleysbooks.com.
I'm always excited to connect with fellow book lovers and history enthusiasts.
